BALTEX-related projects funded through DEKLIM and AFO2000

DEKLIM is the national German Climate Research Funding Programme funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and AFO2000 is the national German Atmospheric Research Funding Programme of BMBF.

Both funding programmes supported several projects and project clusters related to BALTEX:

Project cluster BALTIMOS: Development and validation of a coupled model system in the Baltic Region
Co-ordination: Dr. Daniela Jacob, Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg, Germany

Project cluster EVA-GRIPS: Regional evaporation over heterogenous terrain at gridpoint/pixel scale
Co-ordination: Dr. Theo Mengelkamp, GKSS Research Centre, Geesthacht, Germany

Project cluster APOLAS: More accurate areal precipitation measurements over land and sea
Co-ordination: Prof. Hartmut Graßl, Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg, Germany

Project cluster BASEWECS: Influence of the Baltic Sea and its annual ice coverage on the water and energy budget of the BALTEX-area
Co-ordination: Prof. Wolfgang Krauß, Institute for Marine Research, Kiel, Germany

Project cluster 4D-CLOUDS: Four-dimensional cloud analysis and modelling
Co-ordination: Prof. Clemens Simmer, Meteorological Institute at Bonn University, Germany

Project cluster IBSEN: Integrated Baltic Sea Environmental Study: Analysis and Simulation of Hydrological and Ecological Variability in the last 1000 years
Co-ordination: Prof. Wolfgang Fennel, Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde, Germany

Project CANIBALT: Influence of carbon and nitrogen fluxes on the water and energy budget of the terrestrial biosphere in the Baltic Sea drainage basin
Co-ordination: Dr. Kirsten Warrach Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology, Hamburg, Germany

Project BOBA: Soil frost and snow metamorphism simulations for the BALTEX-region with a complex hydro-thermodynamic soil-vegetation scheme
Co-ordination: Dr. Hendrik Elbern, Institute for Environmental Research at Cologne University, Germany

Project HyperSatAn: Hyperspectral satellite data analysis over land surfaces for climate modelling applications
Co-ordination: Dr. Matthias Drusch, Meteorological Institute at Bonn University, Germany
